Writer’s Journal – Inaugural post

‘Bout time I figured out how to manage posts here with some regularity. So let’s do that, yeah?

All right, so here’s my plan. We’ll see if I’m able to maintain it for a month. If I can do that, I think things will look pretty good here in the future. What I’m going to be doing is a daily progress update, chronicling my (and my team’s) moves on our biggest projects. Some things I won’t be able to talk about because they involve other entities as much as our own group. And while it’s called “Writer’s Journal,” I’m actually going to include things that aren’t specifically about writing. I’m just calling it that because… well… I’m a writer. And it’s my journal. But a professional one, rather than my personal one. I’ll keep the personal journaling to more sporadic posts whenever I feel the need to air something out.

First, let’s talk about how I approach my day. I’m not someone who works well with time limits/constraints. I’m high goal-oriented. And, for that reason, I have a planner that focuses more on regular daily objectives, as opposed to just plugging away at something for a certain amount of time. It also works out for me since I’m prone to getting interrupted and I’m kinda OCD about that type of thing. My planner is essentially a spreadsheet with columns based on the projects I’m undertaking. For now, these include the following:

Galvanic

This is essentially a category for my posts on the main site. For anyone unaware, I currently only post once a week on the main site with any consistency. Through the Bulletoon Extra and Flash Anime-tion series. This is where those post go. Just as well, if and when I ever have ideas for posts in other series – I’m Curious!, for example – then I plug those in there. But I only work on one post at a time.

Today’s Progress: Nothing to report for today. I’ve got no posts immediately in the works but do plan to start planning for this weekend’s post once the latest episode of Bulletoon is finished.

Voyager

That would be this site. Essentially I the same thing, but I’m hoping to reach a point where I can post here daily. That category essentially comes down to just these daily updates, which I’m not actually going to put on the planner because I write them based on what I’ve accomplished in the day. What I’ll put into this category is special posts, whenever I have an idea about them. Be they major updates on projects that warrant their own posts or just random thought pieces.

Today’s Progress: This post was the progress for today. ^^

Anime

The first category that doesn’t really have anything to do with writing, at least not directly, this is just the place where I plug in the anime I’m going to watch that day. My current ritual is to just watch 3 episode of a particular show in a day. I don’t burn through ’em all at once unless I’m in a position where I can’t do anything else. But yeah.

Today’s Progress: My plan was to watch three episodes of Deca-Dence today, but that never materialized. I had too much other stuff to do between Burning Sky chapters, Bulletoon editing, and this very post. Oh well. I’ll see if I can correct that tomorrow.

Bulletoon

This should be fairly obvious. It’s for the show. I don’t work on Bulletoon every day, or anything, but when I have things to work on, it helps having this. Essentially I mark down the stages of the process. Be it the outlining, scripting, the different phases of the edit, whatever.

Today’s Progress: At the time of writing this, I’m in the process of editing the final episode of Season 4 of the show, featuring a topic that lots of people were reeeally anticipating. I’ve currently got all the audio sorted and the character stills are set. All that’s left is for me to add in the visual aids – clips from the anime in question, as well as images from the manga. I have to work tomorrow so it’s highly likely that this episode won’t see the light of day until Thursday despite my posting on Twitter that it’d probably be up on Wednesday. But I really want to take my time to make sure it’s airtight, specifically because so many people were looking forward to it. So yeah. We’ll see what happens.

EXTRACURRICULAR

My personal passion project, as you all know, it’s been a while since I’ve shared an update on it. But I do write on it just about every day. Since it’s a personal project, it isn’t the highest on the list of priorities. So if I take too long to do the other stuff, then it may just not see any progress on that day.

Today’s Progress: Case-in-point, I didn’t do any EXTRA writing today. Just had too much else to do.

Burning Sky: Dawnbringer

So as we’ve revealed already, we’re currently in the process of writing NINE different Burning Sky series, all parallel to one another. I’ve already finished the first book in one of the three I’ve been tasked with helming. Dawnbringer is the second of mine.

Today’s Progress: So something we haven’t really discussed is the new format of the books. When we released the Prelude, we just dumped the full chapters on the site. But going forward, we’re doing something a little different. Instead of that method, we’ll be splitting the chapters up into smaller, easily digestible pieces we’re calling “Episodes.” Today, I was able to put about 500 words in my progress of Burning Sky: Dawnbringer, Chapter 5, Episode 2. Strangely, this episode could probably end here. But I could just as easily put one more session into it and wrap it up after one more major action to the piece. It really just depends. I’ll have to talk about it with the others at some point later in the week.

Burning Sky: Senshi

By the same token, Burning Sky: Senshi is the third of the series I’m spearheading.

Today’s Progress: Today was a good day for this one. I actually concluded the initial draft of Chapter 1, Episode 5. It was a pretty fun one too. I didn’t expect to actually finish the piece today, but it was something I just started having a blast with and got on a roll. I also more or less knew exactly how I wanted it all to pan out. So it didn’t take much for me to run away with it. I think once we start releasing chapters, you guys will really enjoy this one.

There’s also another project on it that, as I’ve said, I currently am not at liberty to discuss. Especially as it’s not even guaranteed to materialize, just yet.

On top of all of that, I’ll also keep you guys appraised of the rest of the team’s current progress. This will include updates on Burning Sky: Adventure, Burning Sky: Odyssey, Burning Sky: Divinity, and Burning Sky: Kindred. The one project we’re currently dealing with that I don’t really feel the need to go over on his is EvilBob’s current endeavor, Summer of Star Wars feat. The Clone Wars. It’s frequent enough and uncomplicated enough in format that it’s just not really worth it.

There are a few pretty hefty announcements we’ve got coming up, but I’m going to save those for a bit because things could change around those. And that’s it! I’ll try to keep this as regular as possible and start really letting you guys know what I’m working on. It’s just been a bit difficult lately, with everything going on. Thanks, as always, for reading.

Stay safe, Stay healthy, Stay Awesome,
Voyager
